8119 Rothco European School Bag, Olive Drab, O/S Review

This is the second bag of this style that I've bought - I got it in black and was so happy with it I got an olive drab one.

I bought this as a replacement for my old Danish book bag - sadly, those don't seem to be available any more. What I was looking for was a sturdy canvas bag with a main area that's expandable with a zipper, and a few more pockets. This bag is almost an exact copy of the Danish bag, so it fits my needs exactly.

I use it every day with the main pocket zipped to the smaller size for carrying my laptop, folders, books, and other things. A zippered pocket on the flap is the right size for cables and two cargo-type pockets hold my power supply and any other bulky things. There's an open pocket on the back side where I stick my newspaper.

For travel, I unzip the main compartment to its full size and add more books and my knitting. It's not too big to shove under the seat in front of me on a plane. Since the bottom is flat, it doesn't tip over easily.

The zipper that expands or closes the main compartment is heavy duty plastic, not metal like in the original, but I don't think that's a problem. One feature that's even better than the Danish book bag is that the flap closes with Velcro rather than buckles. That's a big plus when I'm taking my laptop in and out for TSA.
