First, this bag is large. If you can't conceptualize it from the dimensions, take a three-ring binder and place it on your hip. That's about how big this thing is. If you want a small to medium bag, you should look elsewhere.

If you want a big bag, this one is quite nice.

Its good points:
*Large main compartment can hold about the sam eamount of stuff as backpack style bookbag.
*There are lots of pockets of various sizes to organize and protect your gear.
*The whole thing is made of cotton canvas, incliding the strap and shoulder pad.
*Excellent value for the money.

Its not-so-good points:
*The strap is not attached to swivels, so it can get twisted easily.
*The strap is attached to the front flap, making getting into it while it is on your shoulder slightly inconvenient.
*There is a somewhat bulky tool compartment on the back that isn't particularly useful unless you want to use it as a tool bag.
*Not particularly well-constructed.

If you are looking for a substantial shoulder bag that isn't made of a synthetic material, this is the best option I have found. While it could be a little better engineered and constructed, it is comparatively very inexpensive. All in all a nice bag.
